Wasn’t sure where to post this one, but figured it was mainly about a potential chatbot platform so here goes…

First of all, the article that got my attention was this one:

While there isn’t a lot of chatbot technology behind it yet, it certainly represents a fantastic opportunity to do something new(?) with chatbots. If you don’t have time to read the article, the main point is that the Fake Girlfriend project is based on http://www.twilio.com/ which provides an infrastructure for connecting software to voice and text phone messages.

Undoubtedly there are other similar services available too. Has anyone had any experience with any that they could describe here?

Hey, that sounds like a great idea, Andrew. I bet a dedicated AIML bot could pull the text message part off well. One could even record the various AIML responses and have the bot make the phone calls. Assuming you had a half-way decent speech-to-text conversion system, you could make the phone call part a lot more interactive.

Of course, this guy is crazy for not charging some sort of nominal fee to recoup his costs. I don’t think 4 cents a call would be much of a deterrent for potential customers. Heck, even 10x that amount wouldn’t really phase people I imagine.
