Read my mind if you really want to know.

The guy in your video needs serious psychological help.

Now if you want to meet a guy with serious unexplained powers, watch this video:

In these times when CERN is reporting faster-than-light neutrinos, the Fine Structure Constant seems not so constant, Andrea Rossi has demonstrated cold fusion…how difficult it must be for those who have staked their careers on the status quo! What emotional trick will they not stoop to, in a desperate attempt to undermine the mounting evidence that the models they’re invested so heavily in are flawed? (Of course, all models are flawed by definition, so if they’re good scientists, they should be expecting paradigm shifts :)

For example: C R Hunt’s strongly-worded post above implies that the included links conclusively disprove Bem’s results. But if we look at the articles, we see that the last two can only try to weaken Bem’s positive findings. Neither can refute them.

The attempt to use Bayesian statistics to include the “prior probability” of ESP reminds me a little of Professor Nageli’s refutation of Mendel’s findings on inheritance as “merely empirical, not rational”. (What would Bayes’ rule have computed the probability that the earth revolved around the sun to be, back in the days when the “prior probability” of the earth being the center of the universe was, if you’ll pardon the pun, astronomical?)

It is said that even after Galileo’s experiments, supporters of Aristotle’s theory remained convinced that heavier bodies just had to fall faster than lighter ones…

When Bem appeared on the Colbert Report, he said: “53% sounds small, but it’s exactly the amount a casino has over you in a roulette wheel [...] 53% is what Obama won over McCain in the presidential election [...] what it tells us is that people didn’t just go into the booth and flip a coin.” (Note: I tried to link to the video, but got an “Access Denied” error! So you’ll have to do the search yourself :(

How could you write a computer program to replicate Bem’s results?

My own take is that telepathy and other psi phenomena likely exist, but their effect is small or limited to certain people. For example, Sheldrake reports an experiment with a 40% hit rate for a subject guessing which one of four friends was calling him (one would expect 25% if chance alone were operating). But caller id is something like 99%...so technology can provide more reliability.

Well,
I’ll be very sincere and personal about why I don’t apreciate this kind of subject when I see this video or when we start to talk about it.
I was trying to be sarcastic about this guy but when I saw this video, all I have to say is:
Maybe such things can really happen, we can’t say we know everything in this world… CERN can be able to find Gods Particles,  etc.
I used to be so fascinated about all this stuf in my teenage, I really liked and read a lot about it.
But I don’t know if I’ve mentioned to you that I use at the most of time a pair of crutches, and in a not so far past I had to use a wheelchair. Why?
Because my father has schizophrenia.
He used to believe that he had the “Divine Gift of Thelepathy” and some other stuff like this one.
He also used to be very violent and to beat me.
He went to a medical treatment now. I hope he is ok, I don’t talk to him since 2005.
I also have a congenital condition that made me have artrits since 15 years old, so everytime he beated me, he caused a little more demage than in a health person.
Well I think I don’t need to say more to make you understand why I am skeptic and really afraid about people who say that have thelepatic or telekinetic or any mistic powers…

But I still love ilusionism and magic at all. smile

Well, life goes on.

I like to keep an open mind but I need proof, not just someone telling me stuff that happened to them that could be a medical condition.

I think things like this show we have to try to keep an open mind : http://emotiv.com/

Not so long ago that would be thought of as witchcraft wink

As I’m sure that Roger’s aware, mikmoth over at the Virtual Humans Forums is experimenting with one of those controllers, with an eye towards integrating it with his virtual girlfriend application, Kari. I’m looking forward to the results of his research. smile

  [ # 24 ]

Yes, it was Mik that first introduced it to me, until then I thought it was still Science Fiction smile

  [ # 25 ]

I think we have a spammer.

  [ # 26 ]

Without a doubt. The exact same garbage is turning up on an increasing number of sites in google searches.

  [ # 27 ]

I’ve removed his last post, and have sent him a warning. If it continues, I’ll have no choice but to ban him.

I personally believe our current view of the world will be hilarious in the future. I believe we actually know not much more of our world than a 6 months old baby does. I mean: a baby knows 0,005 percent and we know 0,5 percent. 99,5 to be discovered.

Did you know the word ‘God’ just means ‘everything’? Religions unfortunetly have personalised the concept, (to explain the concept to less intelligent people) but ‘God’ is just a total of energy & matter in the universe. That puts ‘God is everywhere’ in a total other perspective. At the same time, everything is connected through God because energy waves, in the unlimited spectrum just go through everything, including us, including earth, and our molecules are ‘dancing’ on those waves. It’s an interesting Philopsophic. concept.

That’s my attitude to this topic as well. Having a background in Electrical Engineering, I actually used to be very strict in it. Until someone said to me: ‘Hey Erwin, the sun influences our daily behavior, isn’t it? Well, I couldn’t deny that. ‘And the moon is even capable of moving large amounts of water over earth and we consist for 80% of water isn’t? .... Can you imagine that other planets further away from earth, influences the fetus in mothers uterus?’ We were talking about astrology. No proof at all, not even precise statements, but at least a hypothesis we could work on during the century.

As a futurist, in order to predict the future on the very long term (2050-2200) you can no longer rely on future technology that is predicted, because it’s beyond scope of any research institutes. What helped me most was talking with others, study the parallels between cultures and religions that were developed totally separately, still sharing the same world view, and to use my whole body as a sensor to tap into energy of others. Once you’ve experienced telepathic experiences, you don’t need proof anymore. However scientific proof would be good to build technology for this. No need to convince anybody, to me, it’s just a matter of time.

Good points Erwin.  We don’t know the half of it I agree.  Take things like faith healing…it actually works…and things like placebos which also work, but we don’t really know why just yet…

Dave, Erwin, never mind the warning.

You need to notify the authorities about this one before someone gets hurt in real life.
Presumably you have enough information for the police to be able to trace him.
