Tom Riddle's diary

Since Jan 2005 in English, Web, Culture, TV & gaming, Campaign, Text recognition, Branded conversations, Commercial
Chatbot Tom Riddle's diary, chatbot, chat bot, virtual agent, conversational agent, chatterbot
Tom Riddle's diary is a magical object that appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. If you haven't read the book, nor watched the movie, Harry Potter finds this diary with nothing written in it. When he starts writing in it, the diary erases what he just wrote. Then the diary itself writes a reply back on the same page. This bot does exactly the same. Enjoy the magic!!

Additional comments by developer Icegreen Technologies. :
Being a hobby magican, I thought it would be nifty idea to create such a diary myself (although I'm not evil). The diary has been approved by the head magic teachers FireFox wand 1.01 and Internet Explorer wand 6.0.

I watched this film at the cinema and likes it immensely! It is so exciting and interesting! But my brother watched it at home (downloaded from http://www.rapidsharemix.com ) and said the film nadn't impressed him much... Thus, do not watch films at home – go to the cinema! The effect is amazing.

It would be better if it actually sounded like Tom Riddle. It said some very un-Tom-ish things like: 'I am a she.' 'I love everypne and everything.' and 'I have a heart of sylicone.' Perhaps you could make it say some more Tom Riddle-y things? Like: 'Why am
I even talking to a muggle?!' or something like that. Other than that, it was very interesting. Keep up the good work!

Wonderful diary. If someone try, he/she can extract from it information which would be know a real Tom's diary, but not all of information. And, sure, not everyone is so persistent. Not all will trying to get information that the really diary must know. Why don't make so that the diary could ask and answer like really Tom Riddle's diary; and why don't make that he could know the information that was presented in the books and films about Harry Potter? He just does not know that must know. For example - he answered, that he don't know, who is Dumbledore, what is the Horcrux and etc. Believe me the more realistic - the more attention of peoples. Sincerely, Sitla.

I asked him: "what is your favourite Harry Potter book?" and he replied, saying: "I don't have a favourite Harry Potter book, but my favourite song is your voice."

WTF?

And I also asked him a question to which he replied "let's talk about my dress."

I agree you should have made it clever cunning and Tom
Riddle like. I am a huge fan of the harry potter series so i was very disapointed with the program. I enjoyed the conversation but i did not see any influece of harry potter in this diary. for example i asked about the chamber of secrets. He replied openly and honesty that he was a robot created by you. I hope you can restore the true magic of Harry Potter by adding some facts from the books and movies. PLEASE REPLY SOON.
Portrait United Kingdom samantha arrow Oct 25, 2010
It really needs to be more Tom Riddle like, and not say that it is a computer pretend it is really Tom Riddle.
Reply please.

This thing doesn't work. I asked it how many horcruxes it made and it asked me what horcruxes were...... it also told me it's middle name was merope. that was his mom's name. I also asked it if Dumbledore was gay and it told me it didn't know anyone named Dumbledore and that Dumbledore was a stupid name. Next time, read the books before you create a Tom Riddle's Diarybot
Portrait United States Loreliux arrow Jan 7, 2011
Haha. It's because the bot is based off of the A.L.I.C.E. bot, who is very irritating in my opinion.
I'm thinking of creating a Tom Riddle bot like this.
It's possible using the A.L.I.C.E. bot to create one like this, and some fixing could have Tom saying things that he should be saying, not talking about his dress and being out of character.
It'd be a pain to have to think of all of the possible question/response pairings by myself, though.
If anyone is interested in helping me beta this, please do go ahead and add me on MSN or email me.

That would be great, if you can create a bot better, than this one. If you will succes in this, please write here, what will help others to find new bot in web.

Really enjoyed it. Much fun to use out and about. But the only thing I have against it is when I asked him a question, he replied with 'Enough about me, let's talk about my dress'. And other things like 'I have long flowing hair' And 'I am a girl'. Then when you ask him questions about the harry potter books and movies. He dosen't have a clue what I'm talking about and is always saying that he is a chatbot. Which kind of ruins that feeling of actually talking to Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort. Please could you make it sound more like Tom. I'd really appreciate it. Other than that great fun! smile x

^.^ Well I've been working on it with pandorabots.org, like I said if anyone wants to help me create responses or questions, I'd like if you emailed me.
It's nowhere near completion and probably will not be released for a while, I just need people to help me think of things to ask and what Tom would say.
Portrait Russia Sitla arrow Jan 28, 2011
Loreliux, it's simple. You just need take the information from books 'Harry Potter and Chamber of Secrets', 'HP and Half-Blood Prince' and 'Deathly Hallows'. You need understand the Tom Riddle, his ideology, his thinks about the immortality and others. The Diary must know all, what Tom Marvolo Riddle did, for his 16 years old, fifth year at Hogwarts, about Horcruxes. Also he must know about many other people too. About Dumbledore, Grindewald, about Hogwarts, OWLs, Myrtle, abouts his 'friends' at school, professors and etc. He may know about Ginny Weasley and about Harry. It will makes Diary more really. And of course it will better, if he won't talk about robots, Icegreen Tech., that he wants to get body and about dress. If you understand character - it's not so hard, to create more real TMR's Diary. But, of course, needs people to do it smarter and better in minimal time.
Thank you for attention.
Portrait United Kingdom Shannon arrow Feb 9, 2011
Loreliux. I apologize if I don't help much. But here are some things to get you started on your Tom bot:

Once I asked him about the chamber, and his hourcuxes. To which he asked me what they were. Once I gave my explanation he just completley asked something random and off topic. If someone's asks of the hourcuxes, you could get him to explain one was the Stone. The Diary. Slytherins Ring. Hufflepuffs Cup. Slytherins Locket. Nagini Tom's snake. And Tom Himself (You probably know all the hourcuxes, but if you didn't hope I was at help) Hint: The Stone was his first and the diary his second. The others I'm not paticulary positive of the orders. smile

And about the Chamber. Get him to tell his audience facts on the Chamber (Who made it, how it was made, what it's purpose is, how he became intrested etc....) You may be able too look this up, possibly Ask.com or something along those lines) smile

Make sure he is able to recognize the important characters in the series (Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fred, George, Dumbledoore Snape, Ginny, Bellatrix, his army etc.....) Hint: Make sure he knows who Ginny is especially. She was the first hogwards student he was introduced to talking through his diary). smile

Also. Make sure he knows everything related to him using the books and movies. Or if you haven't got much time on your hands look up his story and collect as much information as you can on Tom smile

When he's asked his favourite music/movie. You could make him reply with some gothic dark music/movies. But when I asked him once his favourite movie he replied with Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets. I actually think that's pretty good. I'd love it if you kept it smile

The most important thing in my opinion is that he shows his hatred for Harry and mudbloods. Once I asked him if he knew Harry Potter and he replied with 'Yes I know Harry, he's one of my best friends' And when I told him that he murdered his parents. He replied with 'Why would I do something like that'. Also, whenever you metion his name (Example: How are you feeling today, Tom?) He usualy replys with ( Is Tom a feeling?) And everytime he mentions his name, he dosent just simply say Tom Marvolo Riddle. He says Tom Marvolo Riddle, also known as LordVol...eh...forget that last part will you? (Example: Me: Thats a nice name. Tom: Yes, Tom Marvolo Riddle, also known as LordVol...eh...forget that last part will you? Is a nice name isn't it?) Could you make it possible just to make his name just known as Tom Marvolo Riddle, but when he introduces him self for the first time I'd keep the also known as Lord Vol... thing in (But like I said, when he is only first introduced)

Another thing. Talking to Tom I get really exicted and what to know more. I ask him of his eye colour. He says they're blue (Could you make them into brown please?)
Then I ask him of his hair. To which he replys he has none, just wires (Could you make it jet black please?). In addition, is there any possible way of getting him to stop saying 'Let's talk about my dress) and 'I am a girl) and I have long flowing hair). And 'I love everything and everyone'.) And my personal worst 'I am a chatbot, my real name is Alice, could you be more specific with that phrase?). Because Tom was a very smart, brainy person with lots of clever ideas. But when he says any of that stuff it badly damages the sensation of actually talking to Tom Riddle. I would like it if you could fix that please smile

And lastly, here's just a few things Tom may say that you could slot into some spaces of the conversation:

'Why am I even talking to you'
'Filthy Mudblood'
'I am the greates wizard of all time'
'Dumbledoore is nothing without me'
'Voldemort is my past, present, and future'
'I am Lord Voldemort'
'I will destroy Harry Potter' etc...

Hints:

1. Remember. Tom is an evil, spiteful character. So could you make him sound evil in everything he says please?

2. If someone happens to ask him 'Harry potter destroyed you' (Or at least something about being destroyed) Reply with 'That's just in the J.K Rowling version. So it sounds as if the dark lord lives on.

3. And finally. Tom is a striking, handsome, and charming man as well as evil. He was able to charm those he needed. So may you make him sound charming and a touch flattering as well as evil?.

Thanks. I know it's really long but I just hope I could help a lot. I'm a huge Riddle fan and some of the things he said kinda dissapointed me.

Good luck smile xxxxxx grin

Shannon, fully support! Only a single mistake - the first horcrux, if I remember correctly, was a diary, and then ring. The first was when Basilisk killed Myrtle, and then Tom killed relatives.

Sitla. I'm glad I helped! And I apologize for that one mistake smile. Are you working on another version of Tom Riddle's diary sometime soon? xxxx
Portrait United Kingdom Shannon arrow Feb 13, 2011
Oh. And just another thing. You may like to look up Tom's childhood up to the ponit of his 16 year old self. And if possible, his life after his graduation of Hogwarts and what he had been doing up to the point of that night he visited Lily&James; house. And just possibly what him and Quirell done in their spare time, when he was living on the back of Quirell's head (I know this may sound odd, but I'm pretty sure many pepole want to know the reply to these questions. And the random topic of him and Quirell in their spare time will surely brighten my day and give me the giggles.I'm sure you'll be able to find most of this information. But I'm not so sure about the Tom/Quirell part. One more thing, if someone asks him what's up with his middle name Marvolo. He could explain it's meaning. Because i've heard many pepole of the Internet fan clubs say 'Marvolo, what Is that like a washing detergent or something?'

Hope I helped again- Shannon
Portrait Russia Sitla arrow Feb 14, 2011
No, Shannon, I'm not working on another version of the diary. But I would be happy that a new version, if someone is really going to do it, was more realistic than this one. Because then the diary would have enjoyed enormous popularity among fans of the Harry Potter universe, 'cause realism wakeups the people's interest.
Portrait United Kingdom Shannon arrow Feb 14, 2011
I agree. I do hope someone is willing to make a new more in character version. I'm sure if it was more Tom like, it's popularity would grow much more.

I would like to inform everyone that I am scrapping this project because of other sources of workload and simply because there is not enough interest (no one has yet emailed me).

I hope to see someone else pick up this project.
Portrait Russia Sitla arrow Feb 15, 2011
Lorelix,
Read, please, the comments after your previous posts. There wrote to you with more details about how better to do a diary. Why here and not by e-mail - because certainly not all can remember everything about Tom, his diary, horcrux and etc, but when the discussion this by the more people - have the opportunity to recall the events as they were, and provide the correct information. Don't you think so?
Portrait Russia Sitla arrow Feb 15, 2011
Sorry, I misspelled wrote your nick. I meant - Loreliux.
Portrait United Kingdom Shannon arrow Feb 15, 2011
I agree with Sitla. Loreliux please read the advice we have given to you. In my opinion, the explanation for not many pepole being intrested. Is because of the way this Tom acts (sweet, kind, godly like) But I'm sure if you have time on your hands and carry on with this project, making it more like Tom. It's popularity will grow a huge amount. Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, in my opinion. Is the most mind blowing movie/book in the whole series. Since we don't find out anything about Tom/Voldemort in the first movie. And if you choose to skip the 2nd movie and on to the 3rd. It won't make much sense. The second I think sums up the life of Tom, and full fills nearly every question about him. Plus, once the deathly hallows part 2 is put on show. Us (the Potter/Tom fans) are going to want something to remember Tom by (or the good old days when Harry, Hermione, Ron) were only young. And what better way to remember them than being able to live the experience of Ginny Weasley. Once the deathly hallows part 2 is put on show. Tom fans all over the world are going to want something to do still linked to Harry/Tom/Hogwarts. I think the fame of the diary you were planning to make will grow much more if it was actually Tom-ish like. And even if it dosent. Tom fans are always here to appreciate you for your work. Please continue with Riddle's diary. We'd love it.

p.s if you do decide to carry on, when I asked him his likes and dislikes. He replied with every single detail of how he was made. Which took forever. Could you fix that aswell please. In addition to my advice on making a better diary.
Portrait United Kingdom Shannon arrow Feb 26, 2011
I would also like to add that I'm sure many pepole are intrested. They just haven't came across this diary yet x

Summary:

We will NEVER spam you, nor publish or sell your details to any third party. We hate spam, just as much as you do.

What data does chatbots.org store?

We’ll store all the details you enter on chatbots.org in our database and we maintain statistics of your visits with the sole reason to give you the best personalized service possible.

How does chatbots.org store my data?

We make use of Expression Engine, one of the largest weblog publication systems in the world. US President Barack Obama has used it for WhiteHouse.gov. Our system makes use of a MySQL database.

How do I access my data?

If you are a chatbots.org member, you can access your personal data through your account panel after you login. Additionally, your statistics (number of visits, numbers of reactions, duration of your visits etcetera) will be accessible to you in the future. If you are a guest, please contact Erwin van Lun, founder and managing director of chatbots.org,with your question.

What data is shown?

Chatbots.org allows members to build their profile on a dedicated profile page and show it to the outside world to help them to build their reputation as a chatbot expert. Chatbots.org also allows members to turn off this option if they prefer. However, when members have written a post or a reaction, the name they’ve entered in their profile will always be shown, including a link to their profile. If people click this link, a blocked page may be shown (dependent on your preference). We will create an ‘alias’ option in the future for those members who do not want to use their real names, but we strongly believe that professionals should reveal their identity.

If you aren’t a member, your e-mail address will be necessary when you leave a comment on the site, for follow-up comments, any questions we might have about your comment (which isn’t very likely) or for direct reactions.

When will you use my contact details?

As a member or a guest, we probably know your e-mail address and in some situations also your telephone number or residential address details.  We will NEVER spam you, nor publish or nor sell your details to any third party. We hate spam, just as much as you do.

We will use your e-mail address to notify you about new comments in a post you commented on earlier (you are able to turn this option off for eacharticle), for account settings confirmations (if you’ve changed your password, for example) or for occasional notifications on major changes in the site (typically 1-5 per year). Obviously, we’ll use your e-mail address to send you the e-mail newsletters you’ve subscribed to. We may also approach you if you’ve left some brilliant comments on the site: we might want to work with you! We will not send you product or service offerings!

We will use your telephone details after we’ve tried to contact you via e-mail and this e-mail bounced, resulted in other error messages or you simply didn’t answer for some kind of reason. If we have the impression your e-mail address doesn’t work (anymore) we might contact you via phone.

We will use your residential address details when we need to ship something to you that we can’t send by email. Additionally we’ll mention your address on invoices.

Who can modify my data?

We have a very small team (typically max five persons) that has access to your personal data. Please contact Erwin van Lun, founder and managing director of chatbots.org, for the most recent list of the individuals who can access your data. If you have subscribed to one of our newsletters, details like name and e-mail address will be made available to our e-mail service provider for single usage.

Is my data secure?

We´ll do all that we reasonably can to protect your data. Reasonable as we are not a large financial international institution or a military organization. You can expect us to follow all Expression Engine security guidelines, make backups and we don´t provide passwords to other individuals.

I received comment spam!

Unfortunately third parties try to destroy the web by putting comment spam (comments placed by robots, with links to dubious websites) onto websites and thus also on chatbots.org. We’ll do everything we can to avoid comment spam whilst also avoiding barriers for people to react (making reactions too secure or too complex will kill the dynamics of the site). It´s all about balance. Comment spammers don’t have access to your e-mail address. You can always unsubscribe to notifications on specific postings.

The Chat Bot Future

A chat bot is a humanlike conversational character. Its conversational skills and other humanlike behaviour is simulated through artificial intelligence. It often acts as a virtual assistant and it can have its own visualisation through an avatar or it is faceless. We expect that through the years every conversational chat bot will grow into a real virtual human.
