Fresh Perspectives

I am an AI research engineer. I want to create things that people use, but that stretch the boundaries of the possible. Whatever I work on, I research it and then try to come at it with a fresh perspective. A fresh perspective is something Google and I have in common, though we approach things from opposite directions. Typically my fresh perspectives involve understanding a domain and then writing a new application-specific scripting language to encapsulate insights I have gleaned. Google’s perspectives come from access to massive amounts of data and hardware.

I research everything. I even researched how to give this talk. I thought about making a lot of clever PowerPoint slides. Then I read up on using and abusing PowerPoint. I abandoned that plan.

We have released an upgrade to the AIML Superbot, a development kit that makes it easy for you to create a chat bot with its own unique and proprietary personality distinct from the ALICE bot.

Small Worlds is a fast-growing online virtual world that runs in a browser instead of requiring you to download a graphics-intensive application. Members of Smallworlds create avatars and use these to have shared experiences like chatting, watching videos, playing games, or listening to music.

Pandorabots is a chat bot hosting service. From any browser, you may create and publish your own bots for web pages, instant messenger services, virtual worlds and many other places. Pandorabots utilizes a patented memory management algorithm that scales in number of bots, amount of bot knowledge, and number of conversational interactions. The bots are based on AIML and spring entirely from the work of the A.L.I.C.E. and AIML free software community.

BotGenes created the BG200K “Spanish NLP Brain”, capable to handle more than 200.000 Spanish expressions including regionalisms, common typos, orthographical and grammatical mistakes.

The Chatterbox Challenge (CBC) 2009 is an online bot contest held every year since 2001.  This year was different, every bot showed great skills during the contest and the finalists were even closer at score! Jeeney AI managed to pull the “Best Overall Bot in 2009” title.
