Expertise: Chatbot futurist: predicting the future of chatbots.

Erwin Van Lun MBM MSc., founder of Chatbots.org, is actually a futurist, trend analyst and professional speaker. He’s the author of the book ‘Van Massamerk naar Mensmerk’ which describes how the media will change in the coming ten years, how brands will adapt and what today’s professionals can do to anticipate this. The book was nominated for the Dutch marketing literature awards.

A key theme in his book is the rise of brand agents: artificial characters representing brands, which can have a spoken conversation with consumers, individual people, wherever they are on the globe, whatever they do are doing, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We will experience emotions when we converse with such characters; we will feel a relationship with them. All brands will be represented by artificial characters, even small retail brands and individuals. In the end those characters will look like human beings, behave like human beings and we won’t be able to distinguish them from real people anymore.

That’s why Erwin created a special page dedicated to chatbots on his weblog Mensmerk.nl in 2005. As this page soon appeared to be very successful, Erwin founded Chatbots.org in early 2008.

Erwin has a background in artificial intelligence (Delft University of Technology, MSc. in Electrical Engineering, thesis on Artificial Neural Networks, 1993) and branding (Master of Brand Management, Erasmus University, Rotterdam, Netherlands, 2005)
