Wendell Cowart first began making bots back in 1998. When he first got a computer he enjoyed chatting in the various chat-rooms on the Internet. There you could find many bots and he became interested in making one. His first couple of bots were entertainment type bots. With them you could play a few games but he quickly became bored with them. He began looking around and eventually found a bot that was able to talk. After doing some research on how the bot worked he quickly started to make one of his own. At first it was pretty basic but he continued to work on it over the years. The end results was a chatterbot he called Talk-Bot. Since that time Talk-Bot has won the 2001, 2002, and 2006 Chatterbox Challenge. He has also placed second in the 2002 Loebner Contest. Community ContributionHe is the founder of The Chatterbox Challenge, an annual online contest featuring chatterbots from all over the world. The contest first began in 2001. |
