:trim returning (almost) nothing

Hi,

This is probably a dumb misunderstanding, but if I enter “:trim 0”, I get

Trim LOGS/serverlog1024.txt

Which is exactly what I want. Except that the tmp.txt file only contains the character “0”. If I user :trim 2, the tmp.txt file contains the caracter “2”, and so on…

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Jonathan

So.. I’d have to see your serverlog1024.txt file.  It worked for me (provided I had actual responses as opposed to just start messages). You can email me your logfile to gowilcox at   gmail.com if you want

The answer is:

1. :trim was designed to work with user log files.  Server log files were a cut-down set of data and :trim wasn’t aimed for them.

2. recently the server log file format was changed to become almost exactly like a user log entry. This allows one to potentially recreate user logs from a server log, and do other stuff.  Your logs are old format. Ergo you’d have to trim a directory of user logs instead.
