Seeking clarifications on the <input> tag

Hi all,

I was looking at the thread at https://www.chatbots.org/ai_zone/viewthread/2549/

What does the <input> tag do? I got the impression that it gives the full user input in the response rather than something like <star index=“1”>

The <input> tag is an indexed “list” of previous user inputs, much like the template-side <that> tag. the (mostly outdated, but still useful) AIML Reference manual provides a fair description of the tag’s functionality. while that document is over a decade and a half old and doesn’t cover AIML 2.0, it’s still full of good information.

Thanks Dave. I’ll have another look at that manual. I am using Program-AB in my bot so was a tad confused about displaying user input in case that is what that tag did. It does not so that is ok.
