NEWS: Chatbots.org survey on 3000 US and UK consumers shows it is time for chatbot integration in customer service!read more..

Hello Everyone

Hey everyone!

I just joined the forum, and I’m looking forward to working with all of you on building a chatbot. Just a little about myself, I’m actually a recent law school grad who passed the Illinois bar and will be sworn in on the 31st of October. My practice areas mostly include commercial litigation and insurance coverage issues. In my spare time, I like to program and tinker with my Linux and OSX machines.

I’ve recently been working on a chatbot that is connected to Steam (see: steamcommunity.com). It’s basically a game distribution platform with chat functionality. I’ve already been able to plug in a simple AIML bot, but I’d like to expand the functionality of the bot to incorporate interacting with other players via the virtual item trading interface.

Anyway, I hope to learn some valuable things from all of you!

May we have a direct link to the bot, please.

This topic is a good contribution to Chatbots.org, I think.  It would seem your simple AIML bot may be plugged in locally on your client side, and you wish to run it as a server, so other clients may then share it.

Alex may speak for himself, and no criticism intended on your question.  For the sake of discussion, usually a game distribution platform does not have a link to the bot, unless it is a link to download the game the bot runs inside of.  The fact that it is running inside a game makes it an interesting chatbot configuration, because it may exist in a virtual world which is interactive and visually appealing.

The game link will do fine, but as it was described as an AIML bot, the chance remains that it could be a Pandorabot.  I just didn’t feel like searching all of steamcommunity.com to find it.

Sorry for the late response guys.

I am currently using steambot:  https://github.com/Jessecar96/SteamBot

From there, I simply inserted a C# version of AIML and VOILA, chatbot on steam network.

I believe that SteamBot relies upon steamkit, which is the base coding for interacting with the steam network. It can be found here: https://github.com/SteamRE/SteamKit

Hope that helps!

Hi, Alex!

Being both an avid user of Steam and a chatbot developer, I find this rather facsinating, and I’d love to explore some possibilities (even though my C# skills are virtually non-existent). However, I’m in the midst of a “coding sabbatical”, and also preparing for a 1-2 week road trip, starting this weekend, so such exploration will have to wait a while. Rest assured, however, that I’ll do my best to get back to this as soon as I can. smile
