How do I Use Custom AIML Tags in Program O?

Dave Morton - Jan 25, 2015:

PRogram O also supports the easy creation of custom AIML tags (it even has a couple thrown in right off the bat, such as the <google> and <wiki> tags), which can prove useful.

Is there any information about the custom tags to read somewhere?

Also ..

I have tons of questions related to ProgramO .. where is the best place to read up on. Have found som bits and pieces here and there but most is old or have links to sites that’s offline.

Liz Perreau (the creator of Program O) has been working on the documentation for a while now, and her efforts have been put into the Program O Wiki, but there is still much to do there. As for custom tags, I don’t think she’s gotten all that far with it, mainly because that was a feature that I put in, and I haven’t had much in the way of time to sit down and create the documentation for it.

Basically, the process of implementing a custom AIML tag is a multiple step process. If you’re interested, I’ll see about making the time to outline these steps later this evening, and post those steps here when I’ve got it down.

Thanks for your fast response!!!

I just got it to work by simply adding another function called parse_mynewtag_tag to custom_tags.php
(I copied the code stub for google and renamed it/changed the code)
Now I must restrict myself to use this sparingly ..

It feels like I’m getting the hang on this smile

Last thing on my to-find-out list is how to connect my new chatbot to a blog. Preferrably with an moving avatar.

For that I would suggest looking at the jQuery example in the gui/jquery folder. The HTML/JavaScript code in that folder should give you at least a starting point for integrating your bot into your blog. Please let me know how you get on with that, and if you wish to share a link to the blog when you get it working I’d be happy to test it out. cheese

By the way, we’re getting a bit off topic here, so I’ll probably be splitting this thread to correct that. smile It won’t be until later today, though. I’m hip-deep in baby dragons, ATM. raspberry
