My name as malware?

I did a search on Bruce Wilcox for the past week, and found several entries in the last 24 hours that appear to be fake stories on real sites. If you click on them you get an intercepting webpage wanting you to click on it (either ad for game or a claim your computer is infected and click here to fix). These sites include a radio station, a boy scout troop, a site offering you chatscript script fragments, a rental company, a cafe, etc.

How weird is that?  The web is beginning to fall apart.  Should I feel flattered?

So… Was this search done on Google, Bing, Yahoo, or some other search engine? I googled you (funny how a website’s name is now a perfectly acceptable verb) and found only legitimate sites on the first page of results. I didn’t search further, so I don’t know what else may have shown up. But I agree, it’s odd. But I wouldn’t be flattered by it, really.

Oops? Missed a step. My bad. Yeah, I now see what you mean. I think I’ll report some of these sites, just to help others stay safe.

I did report one and general comment to google

sad.
notes:
- google search on chrome without date filter, apparently show “clean” links.

- “Bruce Wilcox ChatScript” show my article as first result.  strange too. Maybe voted medium pages are ranked well on google search?...

- wikipedia page appears as fourth item. btw. the wikipedia page doesn’t contain link to the github page :(

1. without time other links have precedence, so not surprising, these sites all appear in last 24 hours
2. feed free to edit wikipedia page to reflect github

Hi Bruce, I submitted the update.

I get a lot of these too. I set up a few Google alerts on my name and Mitsuku and get these malware links on an almost daily basis.

Everything posted online is fair game for automated clickbait generators.

But since they are bots, I am not sure it could be anything more than a ‘statistical compliment’ to get one of these bots to generate clickbait links using your name/company/chatbot.
