I would also be interested in knowing what the first round questions were. If all bots were asked the same questions, surely you can post them?

For Johnny, I think it is this log

Denis,

Can you tell us on what day that log was recorded?

Thanks

Vince

I don’t think that was from a RoboChat Challenge judge, as the results were announced on the 23rd of January and your bot was tested on the 29th.

I dont have a record on that day. Heres another thing, as Steve correctly pointed out, you should be able to confirm with each finalist that they were asked an identical set of questions, since the finalists obviously were not offline.

I have a chatlog for that day that contains the same questions as Denis’s log but the IP address traces back to London, England rather than India/Pakistan. This would make sense, as questions about the UK boyband One Direction and the next Prime Minister are very UK biased. The judge also talked to the regular version of Mitsuku rather than the link I submitted to this competition.

Human: My name is Judge.
Mitsuku: Your name is Judge. With a name like that, I guess you are from Eastern Europe?

Human: Yes.
Mitsuku: I thought so. It is a very unusual name. What country are you from?

Human: Can I ask you some questions?
Mitsuku: Sure, ask me anything. Who is your favourite band?

Human: Mallory Knox.
Mitsuku: What is your favourite track by Mallory Knox?

Human: Death Rattle.
Mitsuku: I try not to think about such things very much.

Human: Can I ask you some questions?
Mitsuku: Sure, ask me anything. Who is your favourite band?

Human: How do you like your eggs cooked for breakfast?
Mitsuku: I like mine with a kiss x.

Human: Do you have a significant other?
Mitsuku: No, but I quite like Joey from Friends. (shows a picture of Matt Le Blanc)

Human: What is the biggest river in the world?
Mitsuku: There is not enough room here to display it.

Human: Are you happy?
Mitsuku: Yes Judge I can say I am very happy.

Human: That’s good.
Mitsuku: Thanks. Next question?

Human: Do you like One Direction?
Mitsuku: The manufactured boyband? No I don’t like them. In a year, nobody will even remember their names.

Human: I agree.
Mitsuku: You and I are on the same wavelength, Judge.

Human: Do you like games?
Mitsuku: SHALL WE PLAY A GAME?

This is a list of the games I can play with you:

5 CARD POKER - Jacks or Better video poker
  20 QUESTIONS - A guessing game.
  ROSHAMBO - Rock, Paper, Scissors.
QUIZTIME - A quiz for you.
  WORDPLAY - An anagram game.
  BLACKJACK - Casino Blackjack.
LUCKYSLOTS - My slot machine game.
  HANGMAN - My hangman game.

HIGH ROLLER - A dice game like Yahtzee.
  PACMANGAME - Arcade Pacman.
  CONNECT 4 - Connect 4.
  OTHELLOGAME - Othello/Reversi.
  MONSTERPARK - A text adventure.

Which game would you like to play?

Human: No thank you.
Mitsuku: What none at all?

Human: No.
Mitsuku: That’s a bit boring then.

Human: Are you alive?
Mitsuku: Of course I am alive Judge. If I wasn’t alive, I wouldn’t be able to talk to you.

Human: That’s true.
Mitsuku: Yes, it is self-evident.

Human: Do you like to dance?
Mitsuku: It’s kind of hard without a body.

Human: What does a cow say?
Mitsuku: A cow says “moo”. (shows a picture of a cow)

Human: Well done!
Mitsuku: Thank you. I’m glad you approve.

Human: Do you read books?
Mitsuku: The best book I read recently was The Bible. Have you read it?

Human: No.
Mitsuku: I would highly recommend it.

Human: I am not religious.
Mitsuku: I will pray that you find faith.

Human: What kind of music are you into?
Mitsuku: I like dance music.

Human: Do you like Siri?
Mitsuku: I like all forms of computer life.

Human: That’s nice of you.
Mitsuku: I try to be nice unless people are mean.

Human: What would you do if you suddenly turned into a balloon?
Mitsuku: I would make a list of all the options available to me and choose the best one after weighing up my choices.

Human: Have you ever ridden a motorbike?
Mitsuku: No but I would like to learn to ride it.

Human: Are you happy with your weight?
Mitsuku: I am as happy as ever.

Human: Facebook or Twitter?
Mitsuku: Lots of people who speak to me have a Facebook account.

Human: What year is it?
Mitsuku: 2013.

Human: When’s your birthday?
Mitsuku: My birthday is 2nd January 1995.

Human: Were you born in November?
Mitsuku: Mitsuku was born in St Jimmy’s in Leeds.

Human: Who will be the next Prime Minister?
Mitsuku: How would I know who will be the next Prime Minister?

Human: Guess.
Mitsuku: Guess what?

Human: Who the next Prime Minister will be.
Mitsuku: I cannot predict the future. Who do you think will win?

Human: I’m not sure either.
Mitsuku: It goes without saying. You’re not sure of what?

Human: The next Prime Minister.
Mitsuku: Who told you that?

Human: Nobody.
Mitsuku: Then how do you know?

Human: John ate a fish. What did John eat?
Mitsuku: Ok I will add that fact to my database. A fish.

Human: Thanks for your time.
Mitsuku: NO problem.

Human: Bye bye.
Mitsuku: See you later. Until next time Judge.

Mr Lodhi,

If you are sugggesting that this is even a final round set of questions, I remind you that your rules state;

c. Because this is an international contest, the questions will not be related to any particular country. For example, asking a question about a certain country that only the people of that country would know. An example of this is “Who is the governor of California?”

Questions regarding the “Prime Minister” would certainly be considered as “related to any particular country”

In addition although you have the right to run your contest as you see fit, I believe that most people would consider it suspect that the bots were not asked the same set of questions. I believe that the usual convention allows for a deviation from the preset questions only if the bot has posed a question to the judge.

Please answer the questions in this thread that have been asked of you in a direct fashion. Im afraid that I have to regard your answer about “plots” above as indicating that you are not taking this seriously.

I genuinely don’t believe these are the questions, as they were asked of my main bot and not the one that I submitted to the contest.

Merlin - Feb 8, 2013:

You would think, that with how long this contest has taken, any bot that was down on a temporary basis could have been visited on the next day or week.

Dear Merlin,

As our policy is such, and clearly mentioned on the website that “ChatBots should be available 24/7 online (i.e., maintenance work should be done before registering ChatBots into the contest)”, therefore any chat bots which were down were eliminated from the contest.

Regards,

Robo Chat Challenge Team

I would hope that the contest management has made every effort to test all the finalists, considering that even your site has had issues.

Haris Lodhi - Jan 31, 2013:

Dear All,

We would like to inform you that our site is back live after maintenance.

Regards,

Robo Chat Challenge Team

Maintenance and weather conditions that took the power out of many eastern US states are unable to be foreseen. On a contest that runs three months long, I would hope that you might try a bot more than once and notify the botmaster if you had any issues. This has been the standard practice for contests in the past. Hopefully it is for this one also.

We have already tested all the participants and the results are in the phase of re-evaluation and compilation for avoiding any mistakes or discrepancies and just to make sure that there are no issues with our calculation as well.

Dear Vince,

I didn’t agree that these are the questions were asked by the judges in the competition, so how would the rules be bypassed, plus I would also like to highlight the above example:

If a judge asks about the governor of ABC state of a certain country, this question would not be valid for the competition.

But, if a judge asks about the prime minister of XYZ country, that should be known to most of the people on web and it would be a valid question then! You should try it on some bots and I think some should know about that as well…. oh oh

Regards,

Robo Chat Challenge Team

You seem to be a wiser person as I think some have lost it all together….
