Regarding machine specifications for the 2011 contest

As I’m sure everyone here well knows, I’m working on ways to make a version of Morti that will be able to compete in the Loebner Prize Competition, possibly in 2011, but more likely in 2012. Since I likely won’t’ be able to attend myself, I want to make it so that a USB flash drive can be inserted, and Morti will be ready to go. However, this means that I’ll need to have an understanding of what form the architecture of the machine he’ll be plugged into will be. Specifically, it would be good to know what OS platform it will have, what scripting language interpreters will be native to the system (e.g. PERL, PHP, Python, Ruby, etc.), availability of databases, if any (MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc.), and other parameters, such as RAM.

Knowing this information will help me (or anyone else, as well) to determine what actions I need to take to be certain that Morti’s “installation” will be a smooth and painless process. Exact technical specs aren’t exactly required, but would be nice.

Also, will it be one computer per entrant? Or will Morti have to share resources?

The machines will be provided by the venues - U. of Exeter, 2011 and Bletchley Park, 2012, but you can assume:
1. Windows OS
2. One machine per entrant
3. You will have to provide resources - interpreters, database systems, etc.

Thanks, Dr. Loebner. I appreciate the information. That’s pretty much what I had expected, but I wanted to be certain. It’s best to know these things up front.

Yuck! How do you suppose to have anything intelligent emerge from that?

@Richard:  L M A O ....  It’s a new, intelligent way to blue screen.

  [ # 5 ]

I wager that if I can make it to the final 4 that none of you can beat me in the Loebner Prize Conetest.

  [ # 6 ]

I bet I’ll never win it because I didn’t do something like post a picture to my profile, or send Loebner a private email so I never found out he wasn’t pressing enter at the end of messages, or some other “social intelligence” thing smile

My Loebner Prize Contest entry with Folder Browser Dialog is talking to the
“Loebner Prize TEST Program version 2.0.0”.

The Judge program is the user interface. So, connecting it to the Loebner Prize
Protocol through the file system, is all that is necessary to make it work.

I asked the contest officials if the .NET framework would be installed on the
machines, since apparently, I can not redistribute it in the mail to the UK.

why not uses Linux :(

  [ # 9 ]

Because Loebner has an ‘irrational fear’ of Linux!

Debate: This is a technical question (not sarcasm)...

Why use the Loebner Prize Protocol to record simulated microsecond data generated by an automated system?

What is the point of converting character-mode to message-mode?

Reference: http://loebner.exeter.ac.uk/

Each entry will be tested against a number of questions using the Loebner Protocol by an automated system that ensures each entry is tested in the same fashion. The questions themselves will be similar in nature to those used last year which are shown below.

  [ # 11 ]

It’s my thought that they want to produce a verifiable “paper trail”, for auditing purposes. In that context, it would make sense to do so; otherwise, I have no clue. smile

Debate:

The judge asking the questions is automated, which means it is not using a keyboard.

Why use character mode when there are no character key strokes being entered?

Why go from message mode to pseudo character mode back to message mode?

  [ # 13 ]

to make the whole process take longer?

So how did you do this year Robby?

Everything is going according to plan. I didn’t enter the contest. Therefore I didn’t make it to the final 4. Therefore, I win my wager. smile

Robby.
