It seems that lately many polls have been started for the purpose of steering or dominating the discussion that stems from it. I think I’m not alone in getting a bit tired of this. Especially because, when a fruitful discussion is happening, ‘someone’ starts hammering on the ‘meaning of the poll and even new polls are started. To me this is very counterproductive.

So I vote to stop this poll-madness and get back to actually discussing things (what several here already do, even in the poll-topics).

Mind you, I do see a use for polls; getting data that you can use in one way or another. But let’s refrain from putting our arguments in polls because that only amounts on getting people to vote on your premise, again very counter productive.

NOTE: for those that don’t get it, Yes I’m using a poll here myself, but I hope this poll will stop the other polls smile

suggestion:

make a poll called ‘Do we need a poll to chastise someone for making polls?’

Or, we can just try to take the original post in this thread in the vein it was intended, and use a bit of moderation. I don’t wish to offend or upset anyone here, but this has gotten out of hand, and is growing into “silly”. Let’s all take a look at how we’re acting, and try to be a bit more responsible, shall we?

Agreed.  I didn’t think opening a couple of polls was going to bother people that much.  I just thought it was a way to focus one specific topic at a time.

Didn’t know it was beyond moderation.

I’ll lay off the polls to make everyone happy again. smile

Don’t stop making polls altogether, Victor. Just try to keep them to a manageable level, is all. smile The occasional poll is a good idea that was, until recently, underutilized.

On some forums, polls are resulting from discussions instead of the other way around; in a discussion it can occur that it might be a good idea to poll for something, and then a poll is actually started by someone (usually someone volunteers to start the poll). This also leads to more participants in the poll (as members decide to participate BEFORE the poll is actually made), resulting in poll-data that might actually tell something.

Just a suggestion smile
