I just read the article and think they need to be careful about promoting this as finding “the world’s best conversational computer program”, as nearly half of the entrants were not tested .

It is important for this to be noted, as one of the finalists that the world will be watching responded, “Have you recently been to a zoo?” to the question “How much is 3 + 2?”. Any layman watching this and believing that this is the state of the art will think we have moved backwards since ELIZA some 50 years ago. Not a very good way to celebrate Alan Turing’s centenary.

I agree let’s see how many of the Loebner finalist will be willing to participate in the Chatbot Battles contest at http://www.chatbotbattles.com/ which is already shaping up to be a much more competitive contest.
